MJLD: Law Society Consultation

17th December 2009

The Law Society's Education and Training Committee is in the process of carrying out a survey on the quality of the academic stage of legal training in response to a number of concerns regarding the quality of incoming trainees and newly qualified solicitors. In particular, the Law Society is reviewing the core subjects and timescales of a qualifying law degree with a view to changing the current format.

The Law Society wants your views on the extent to which the qualifying law degree equipped you with the following:

  • technical knowledge;
  • legal knowledge in core areas;
  • variety of skills and level of proficiency;
  • transferability of skills from the academic state of training;
  • delivery of work to acceptable standards;
  • conduct, professionalism and ethical behaviour;
  • proficiency in key skills such as writing and drafting, client interviewing and presentation;
  • research skills and use of resources;
  • development and progression during traineeship.

If you would like to contribute to the review or have any comments whatsoever, please e-mail kate.moore@halliwells.com by Thursday 24th December 2009.
